Today I installed Windows 2003 R2 server on a HP Proliant. After the clean install I used the Acronis TrueImage boot CD in order to create an image of the filesystem. TrueImage creates a .tib file. In my case, this .tib file was 6GB.
Now I have noticed that it's possible to convert a .tib file with the free VMware vCenter Converter. This is an easy process, which produces a separate folder with a .vmdk (5GB) and .vmx (1kb) file.
Now I can use VMware Player to start the virtual copy of the physical server I have just installed. Nice !
